The total amount of the foreign language boos & periodicals of Nanjing Library had reached 600,000 volumes, a considerable number of them published before 1949 with good reputation for large amount, high grade and Some are rare books. The foreign books after founding of the PRC focus on electronics, textile, Chemical industry, mechanics, law, economy, literature, art and reference books with the need of political, economic, scientific research, cultural, educational construction for Jiangsu Province. Until now the amount of the western language books had reached more than 200,000 volumes, the Japanese books had reached 120,000 volumes, and the Russian books had reached 140,000 volumes.
